Had a very good experience with Sydney Glass Installations. I had a broken window that needed urgent repair. Even though it was in the middle of the end of year shut down period, Sam organised a quote straight away. Huss replaced it in less than an hour whilst doing a perfect job. Thanks again and will use you again in the future.

Quick, honest and well priced company. My measurements were off and my window was smaller than what was originally quoted. The boys made an adjustment on the price without even asking. Hard to find in this day.

FAQ

Glass Splashback Questions Answered

How much do glass splashbacks cost in Sydney?
A standard kitchen glass splashback (behind the cooktop, typically 900mm × 700mm) costs $400–$800 installed. A full-length splashback running the entire kitchen bench area typically ranges from $1,200–$3,000 depending on total area and colour. Metallic, mirror, and printed finishes cost more than standard painted colours. All prices include measurement, supply, installation, and cleanup. We provide free, no-obligation quotes with upfront pricing.
Are glass splashbacks heat resistant?
Yes — we use 6mm toughened safety glass for all splashbacks, which can withstand temperatures up to 250°C. This makes it safe behind gas and electric cooktops. However, glass splashbacks should not be installed directly behind open-flame gas burners without adequate clearance — we follow the manufacturer and Australian Standard guidelines for minimum distances. For induction and electric cooktops, glass splashbacks are ideal with no restrictions.
What colours are available for glass splashbacks?
Virtually any colour. We back-paint the glass using a specialist two-pack polyurethane coating system that provides a durable, vibrant finish. You can choose from our standard colour range, match a Dulux or Pantone colour code, or bring in a sample and we'll colour-match it. Popular choices in Sydney kitchens include pure white, stone grey, charcoal, navy blue, and soft sage green. We also offer metallic finishes, mirror splashbacks, and digitally printed designs.
How long does a glass splashback installation take?
Most kitchen splashback installations are completed in 1–2 hours. The glass panels are pre-cut and painted in our workshop to your exact measurements, so on-site work is quick — we apply adhesive, position the panels, and secure them in place. The adhesive needs 24 hours to fully cure before the cooktop area is used at high heat. If we're removing old tiles first, allow an additional 1–2 hours depending on the area.
Can glass splashbacks be installed over existing tiles?
Yes, glass splashbacks can be installed directly over existing tiles provided the tiles are flat, firmly adhered, and in good condition. The glass is bonded to the tile surface using a neutral-cure silicone adhesive. This is a popular option because it avoids the mess, cost, and time of removing old tiles. If tiles are loose, cracked, or uneven, we recommend removing them first for the best result — we can handle this for you.
How do I clean a glass splashback?
Glass splashbacks are one of the easiest kitchen surfaces to clean — that's a major reason they're so popular. For daily cleaning, simply wipe with a damp microfibre cloth. For grease and cooking splatter, use warm soapy water or a standard glass cleaner. Avoid abrasive scouring pads or cream cleansers, as these can scratch the surface over time. The smooth, non-porous surface means there are no grout lines to scrub and no places for grease or mould to hide.
Do glass splashbacks need to be toughened glass?
Yes — any glass splashback installed behind a cooktop must be toughened (tempered) safety glass to comply with Australian Standards. Toughened glass is four to five times stronger than regular glass and withstands the heat generated by cooking. If it ever does break, it shatters into small, blunt granules rather than dangerous shards. All our splashbacks use 6mm toughened safety glass that meets AS 2208.
Can you install splashbacks in bathrooms and laundries too?
Absolutely. Glass splashbacks work beautifully in bathrooms (behind vanities and basins), laundries (behind sinks and washing machines), and wet bars. They provide the same easy-clean, waterproof, and mould-resistant benefits as in kitchens. Bathroom splashbacks are particularly popular because they eliminate grout lines that can discolour and harbour mould in wet environments.
What about cutouts for power points?
We handle all cutouts for power points, light switches, and fixtures. Because toughened glass cannot be cut or drilled after tempering, all cutouts must be planned and made during manufacturing. We measure the exact position of every power point and fixture during our on-site measurement, and the cutouts are precision-cut in the factory before the glass is toughened. This is why accurate measurement is critical — and why we always measure ourselves rather than working from customer-supplied dimensions.
Is your splashback installation covered by a warranty?
Yes. All glass splashback installations are backed by our lifetime workmanship warranty — if there's ever an issue with the installation, we'll fix it at no cost. The toughened glass carries a manufacturer warranty, and the back-painted colour finish is warranted against peeling, flaking, and discolouration under normal use. We use only premium coatings and adhesives to ensure long-lasting results.

Custom Glass Splashbacks for Sydney Kitchens

Glass splashbacks have become one of the most popular kitchen finishes in Sydney homes — and for good reason. They're sleek, hygienic, incredibly easy to clean, and available in virtually any colour. Unlike tiled splashbacks with grout lines that trap grease and discolour over time, a glass splashback provides a seamless, non-porous surface that wipes clean in seconds.

Sydney Glass Installations manufactures and installs custom glass splashbacks for kitchens, bathrooms, laundries, and wet bars across the entire Sydney metropolitan area. Every panel is made to order — precision-measured to your space, back-painted in your chosen colour, and factory-cut with all necessary cutouts before being toughened to Australian Standard AS 2208.

Glass Splashbacks vs. Tiled Splashbacks

The shift from tiles to glass splashbacks in Sydney kitchens has been driven by three practical advantages: hygiene, maintenance, and design flexibility.

No grout lines. Grout is porous — it absorbs grease, moisture, and cooking residue, and it discolours over time regardless of how often you clean it. Glass is completely non-porous, so there's nowhere for grease or bacteria to hide. A quick wipe after cooking is all it takes.

Unlimited colour options. Tiles limit you to whatever's available in the showroom. Glass can be back-painted in any colour — match your cabinetry, your benchtop, or create a bold contrast. You can even colour-match to a specific Dulux or Pantone code. This flexibility makes glass splashbacks the go-to choice for designers and homeowners who want a precise colour match.

Faster installation. Tiling a kitchen splashback typically takes 2–3 days (including grouting and curing time). A glass splashback is installed in 1–2 hours. The panels arrive pre-made and ready to bond — there's no cutting, no grouting, and minimal disruption to your kitchen.

Choosing the Right Colour

The colour of your splashback sets the tone for the entire kitchen. Here's what we see working well in Sydney kitchens right now:

White and off-white remain the most popular choice — they create a clean, bright feel and work with every kitchen style from classic to contemporary. Pure white suits modern kitchens with white cabinetry, while warmer whites (with a hint of cream or grey) complement timber and stone benchtops.

Grey tones (stone, concrete, charcoal) are the second most popular, pairing well with white or dark cabinetry and stone benchtops. They add depth without competing with other elements in the kitchen.

Bold colours (navy, emerald, burnt orange, deep red) create a statement feature wall. They work best when the rest of the kitchen is relatively neutral, letting the splashback become the focal point.

Mirror splashbacks are a smart choice for smaller kitchens — they reflect light and create an illusion of depth and space. Available in clear mirror, grey-tinted mirror, and bronze-tinted mirror.

How Much Do Glass Splashbacks Cost in Sydney?

Splashback costs depend on the total area, colour/finish type, number of cutouts, and whether existing tiles need removal. Below are typical price ranges for standard installations in the Sydney metro area. All prices include measurement, manufacture, installation, and cleanup.

Service Typical Range (incl. GST)
Cooktop splashback (standard ~900×700mm) $400 – $800
Full-length kitchen splashback $1,200 – $3,000
Bathroom vanity splashback $300 – $600
Laundry splashback $350 – $700
Mirror splashback (per m²) $350 – $550
Metallic finish splashback (per m²) $400 – $650
Printed glass splashback (per m²) $450 – $700
Tile removal (if required) From $150

Factors that affect pricing: Oversized panels, metallic or printed finishes, multiple power point cutouts, and tile removal all add to the base cost. Complex shapes (L-shaped kitchens with mitred joins, curved walls) require additional manufacturing time. We confirm the full price in your quote before any work begins.

How Glass Splashbacks Are Made

The manufacturing process starts with precise on-site measurement. Our glazier measures the full area, marks the exact position of every power point, light switch, and fixture, and confirms the colour selection. These measurements go to our workshop where the glass is cut to size, all cutouts are made, and the edges are polished smooth.

Next, the back surface is coated with a specialist two-pack polyurethane paint in your chosen colour. This coating system is specifically formulated for glass — it bonds permanently, won't peel or flake, and provides a vibrant, even finish. After painting, the glass is sent for toughening (tempering) at over 600°C. This process makes the glass four to five times stronger than regular glass and is irreversible — which is why all cutting and drilling must be completed beforehand.

The finished panel arrives on-site ready to install. We apply a neutral-cure silicone adhesive (which won't react with the paint coating), position the panel precisely, and secure it in place. The adhesive reaches full strength within 24 hours. For areas behind cooktops, we leave a small expansion gap at the bottom to accommodate heat.

Beyond the Kitchen — Splashbacks for Every Room

While kitchens are the most common application, glass splashbacks are equally at home in bathrooms, laundries, and wet bars. In bathrooms, a glass splashback behind the vanity basin eliminates the grout lines that harbour mould in wet environments — it's waterproof, hygienic, and far easier to keep clean than tiles. Laundry splashbacks protect the wall behind sinks and washing machines from water damage and detergent splatter.

Whatever room you're renovating, a custom glass splashback from Sydney Glass Installations will transform the space. Every panel is made to order, installed by our own licensed glaziers, and backed by our lifetime workmanship warranty. Get in touch for a free quote.
